Walt Whitman scholars and enthusiasts from around the globe gathered at St. Francis College on May 27th to kick off International Whitman Week, an annual series of events commemorating the birth of the renowned 19th century poet who called Brooklyn home.

A testament to its recruitment efforts and student-first academic focus, St. Francis College welcomed its largest, most diverse freshmen class in its history this fall, bucking national trends that saw steep declines in enrollment of first-year college students.

Confirming its success in providing opportunities to students historically underserved by higher education, the non-profit Strive for College has recognized St. Francis College for excellence in inclusion, diversity, affordability and outcomes.

St. Francis College today announced its plan to move to a newly designed and fully customized campus in downtown Brooklyn.St. Francis College's relocation to The Wheeler building at 181 Livingston St. is the foundation of the 162-year-old private Franciscan institution's transformative new initiative, SFC Forward, which it undertook in early 2021. The new campus will open its doors to students in September 2022.

Over the course of the year, the campus will engage the community in a series of celebratory activities, events and initiatives in recognition of the College's rich history and achievements made by SFC women.

According to the Center for Women's Business Research "10.1 million firms are owned by women (50% or more), employing more than 13 million people, and generating $1.9 trillion in sales as of 2008." Women face a number of obstacles in the workplace but through mentorship, leadership, networking and work-life balance, women are not only staying in business, they are breaking through the glass ceiling. These strategies were the focus of a panel discussion featuring extraordinary women leaders across various industries, an event hosted by the St. Francis College Women's Center on October 26 in the St. Francis Genovesi Center.

Students in St. Francis College's Management program have again achieved top rankings in Glo-Bus, a competitive simulation of the digital camera industry that is widely used in advanced courses by colleges and universities worldwide. Students were ranked against the scores of over 2300 similar company teams from 145 colleges and universities around the globe who were simultaneously competing during the Spring semester.

More than 150 St. Francis College alumni, staff and friends went out to the ballgame in Coney Island Tuesday, June 22 to root for the home team Brooklyn Cyclones and support scholarships at St. Francis College.

From Tennis to Track, on land and in the water, a number of St. Francis College athletes performed at an exceptional level during the 2008-2009 school year.

More than 125 academics, professional scientists and experts came to St. Francis College November 14 and 15 to help draw attention and spark interest in the sciences across the region as part of the 2008 Northeast Regional Meeting of the National Organization of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers (NOBCChE).
