More Than $400,000 Raised in Memory of Brother George Larkin at 49th Charter Award Dinner
For more than 35 years, Brother George Larkin, O.S.F. '60 helped recruit and guide thousands of students through their time at St. Francis College. To honor his memory and the influence he had on the St. Francis College Community, the College raised more than $400,000 through donations, ticket sales, sponsorships of the event and a silent auction at the 49th Annual Charter Award Dinner on Thursday, April 22 at the New York Marriott.

Student Recognition Day Honors the Best of Student Research
Every spring semester the outstanding work of those who represent the very best attributes and accomplishments of St. Francis College students are honored for their work on Student Recognition Day. This year, on April 22, seven students met the criteria of the review committee and were awarded a certificate of recognition and merit for their dedication and outstanding skill in the art of research and writing.

St. Francis Community Comes Together to Celebrate Diversity for 13th Annual Community Day
St. Francis College proudly held its 13th annual Community Day to celebrate the many cultures and ethnicities that make up the College on Sunday, April 18. Students, faculty, staff and administrators came together for a three part event that begins with an all-inclusive, spiritual mass. The day continues with dancing, singing and spoken word performances that reflect the diversity of backgrounds of the population. Last is a multicultural buffet with a variety of homemade dishes from around the world.

St. Francis Athletic Director Irma Garcia Honored by El Diario for 15th Annual Mujeres Destacadas Women's Luncheon
St. Francis College Athletic Director Irma Garcia, the first Latina to head an NCAA Division I Athletics Department, was recognized as one of the recipients of the 2010 "Mujeres Destacadas Award" by El Diario La Prensa, the premier publication serving New York-area Latinos. The annual Mujeres Destacadas Awards, now in their 15th year, recognizes women from business, industry, government, nonprofit, sports and entertainment who distinguished themselves in their field and have made a difference in their community.

Biennial Conference: Society for 18th Century Music
St. Francis College proudly hosted the Fourth Biennial Meeting of the Society for Eighteenth-Century Music from April 8 – 11, with events throughout the College and across New York City. The conference, which was dedicated to the memory of the scholar H. C. Robbins Landon, attracted fifty-one registrants arrived from New Zealand, Austria, Canada, and across the United States for classical performances and presentations of cutting-edge research on topics ranging from reports on newly discovered manuscripts to fresh information on composers' lives, to revised interpretation of their works.

Fatal Promises: A Real Life Look at Human Trafficking
Human trafficking is alive and well right here in the United States, even in the New York metropolitan area Director Kat Rohrer told a crowd of students as she screened portions of her documentary Fatal Promises at an event hosted by the St. Francis College Women's Studies Center on Monday, March 29.

Feminist Author & Activist Jennifer Baumgardner Brings Message to SFC
When Jennifer Baumgardner was growing up in the culturally and ethnically homogenous area of North Dakota she said it was very easy for her and her family to take some progressive stances on issues like civil rights and gay rights, she told a crowded Maroney Forum on Thursday, March 25 as a guest speaker brought by the St. Francis College Women's Studies Minor.

Rock Journalist Offers Career Advice and History
With a slightly self-deprecating tone that belies the fact that he has one of the coolest jobs around, rock music journalist Jon Wiederhorn spoke to a group of St. Francis College students and other members of the community about his 20 year career in the business on Monday, March 22 at the College.
