Students Celebrate Spring Commencement as More Than 300 Receive Degrees

With encouraging words from the President of Fordham University The Reverend Joseph M. McShane, S.J., New York's Senior Senator Charles Schumer and others, more than 300 graduates from St. Francis College are now the College's next ambassadors to the world after taking part in the Spring 2010 Commencement Ceremony at the Marriott Brooklyn Bridge on Friday, May 14.

Remembering the Past, Celebrating Academic Excellence at the Annual Charter Day Convocation

"Each one of the members of Duns Scotus has taken the lessons St. Francis gave us and has transformed it into his or her own magic," said President of the Duns Scotus Honor Society Aleksandra Milanova '10 as she welcomed the newest inductees at St. Francis College's annual Charter Day Convocation on April 30. "Each student here is given the chance to grasp that magic and transform it into something powerful; the magic of scholarship and faith in good, faith in people. This magic changes lives."

Young Journalists in Training Celebrate 5th Year With Honors for Mayor David N. Dinkins, Basil A. Paterson

The storied Gang of Four that held sway in Harlem politics and produced New York City's first African-American mayor had a reunion of sorts April 29 at St. Francis College to celebrate the 5th Anniversary of the Andrew W. Cooper Young Journalists In Training Program.

Glenn Braica Becomes 17th St. Francis College Men's Head Basketball Coach

Terriers' Director of Athletics Irma Garcia announced today that Brooklyn- born Glenn Braica (pronounced Brike-uh), has been named the 17th head coach in the history of the St. Francis College men's basketball program. Braica replaces Brian Nash, who resigned for personal reasons on April 7, 2010.

Annual Delaney Speech Contest Offers Prize Money for the Lost Art of Persuasive Speaking

Chandra Persuad used her five minutes at the Delaney Speech Contest to talk about how women are portrayed in advertising and came away with the first place $500 prize at the Annual Delaney Speech Contest at St. Francis College on April 26.

St. Francis Hosts Undergraduate Math Conference

More than 120 mathematicians from across the Northeast descended on St. Francis College April 24 for the 5th Annual Spuyten Duyvil Undergraduate Mathematics Conference. The conference, hosted by the St. Francis Department of Mathematics had a strong College presence with 10 talks and two posters presented by students and professors from St. Francis. In all there were more than 40 talks spread out over 12 topical sessions.

More Than $400,000 Raised in Memory of Brother George Larkin at 49th Charter Award Dinner

For more than 35 years, Brother George Larkin, O.S.F. '60 helped recruit and guide thousands of students through their time at St. Francis College. To honor his memory and the influence he had on the St. Francis College Community, the College raised more than $400,000 through donations, ticket sales, sponsorships of the event and a silent auction at the 49th Annual Charter Award Dinner on Thursday, April 22 at the New York Marriott.

Student Recognition Day Honors the Best of Student Research

Every spring semester the outstanding work of those who represent the very best attributes and accomplishments of St. Francis College students are honored for their work on Student Recognition Day. This year, on April 22, seven students met the criteria of the review committee and were awarded a certificate of recognition and merit for their dedication and outstanding skill in the art of research and writing.

St. Francis Community Comes Together to Celebrate Diversity for 13th Annual Community Day

St. Francis College proudly held its 13th annual Community Day to celebrate the many cultures and ethnicities that make up the College on Sunday, April 18. Students, faculty, staff and administrators came together for a three part event that begins with an all-inclusive, spiritual mass. The day continues with dancing, singing and spoken word performances that reflect the diversity of backgrounds of the population. Last is a multicultural buffet with a variety of homemade dishes from around the world.

St. Francis Athletic Director Irma Garcia Honored by El Diario for 15th Annual Mujeres Destacadas Women's Luncheon

St. Francis College Athletic Director Irma Garcia, the first Latina to head an NCAA Division I Athletics Department, was recognized as one of the recipients of the 2010 "Mujeres Destacadas Award" by El Diario La Prensa, the premier publication serving New York-area Latinos. The annual Mujeres Destacadas Awards, now in their 15th year, recognizes women from business, industry, government, nonprofit, sports and entertainment who distinguished themselves in their field and have made a difference in their community.
