The storied Gang of Four that held sway in Harlem politics and produced New York City's first African-American mayor had a reunion of sorts April 29 at St. Francis College to celebrate the 5th Anniversary of the Andrew W. Cooper Young Journalists In Training Program.

St. Francis College Athletic Director Irma Garcia, the first Latina to head an NCAA Division I Athletics Department, was recognized as one of the recipients of the 2010 "Mujeres Destacadas Award" by El Diario La Prensa, the premier publication serving New York-area Latinos. The annual Mujeres Destacadas Awards, now in their 15th year, recognizes women from business, industry, government, nonprofit, sports and entertainment who distinguished themselves in their field and have made a difference in their community.

Jill Lepore, Ph.D., award-winning Professor of American History at Harvard University and a staff writer at The New Yorker, will deliver this year's Dr. Frank Greene Lecture, an annual event that is part St. Francis College's Honors Program.

St. Francis College students and alums can land their perfect job at the upcoming Bridge to Your Dreams Career Fair, an annual hiring event on April 10th where nearly 300 employer representatives recruit from all majors for full-time, part-time and summer jobs and internships

John Sexton, Ph.D., President Emeritus of New York University, will address the St. Francis College community on April 26th, as keynote speaker at the Charter Day convocation, the college's annual ceremony to present students, faculty, staff and community partners with awards and scholarships reflecting their achievements over the past year.

More than 250 people gathered at the Plaza in Manhattan for St. Francis College's 48th Annual Charter Award Dinner, which honored John A. Catsimatidis, the Chairman & CEO of Red Apple Group. The event, which took place on April 28th, raised over $400,000 to support scholarships for St. Francis students.

Born in a World War II work camp to parents who were slave laborers under the Nazis, John Guzlowski shared a series of deeply personal and powerfully shocking poems about his parents and their experiences as Polish Catholic victims of the Nazis on October 11 in St. Francis College's Founders Hall.

Performance poet, author, and activist Mahogany Browne, the Poetry Coordinator of St. Francis College MFA Program, will moderate a live discussion with best-selling young adult novelist Jason Reynolds and actor and writer Amber Tamblyn about the necessity of creating beyond genres and writing fearlessly.
