Short List Announced for St. Francis College Literary Prize
From nearly 40 submissions, the jury for the first ever St. Francis College Literary Prize has selected a short list of four authors who will now compete for the $50,000 award which will be announced at the Gala Opening Night Party of the Brooklyn Book Festival on September 12. The authors are: Chris Abani, Song For Night (Akashic Books); Aleksandar Hemon, Love and Obstacles (Riverhead Books); Jim Krusoe, Girl Factory (Tin House Books) and Arthur Phillips, The Song Is You (Random House).

SFC Tv Premieres on St. Francis College Website
When almost 200 students from East New York Prep Charter School spent the day at St. Francis College, a camera and two St. Francis Communications Arts students captured the experience, turning the video and interviews into a story like any seen on a local newscast. It was the latest effort from SFC TV, a burgeoning collection of news stories and features about St. Francis College; reported, shot and produced by the College's students.

Golfers Raise $125,000+ for St. Francis College Scholarships at Annual Meadow Brook Club Golf Outing
More than 130 golfers of all skills helped raise nearly $126,000 for St. Francis College Scholarships at the 11th Annual Meadow Brook Club Golf Outing on August 3. For the second year, in addition to the more than 30 foursomes who played in the tournament, a number of alumni and friends were able to spend the afternoon at a golf clinic learning the arts of driving, pitching and putting in a highly enjoyable format from PGA professional, Jamie Kilmer and Meadow Brook Club staff.

Psychology Professor Kristy Biolsi's Marine Mammal Research Featured on Nova Science Now
When St. Francis College Assistant Professor Kristy Biolsi came to teach at St. Francis College a year ago, she had to leave behind some very close, unusual friends; sea lions, walruses and seals. She is keeping in touch with one particular California sea lion, Rio, as her research with this cow will be featured on an upcoming episode of Nova Science Now, which airs on PBS channels across the country. The first chance to see it here in New York will be Thursday morning at 2:00am on WNET Channel 13 as well as WNETHD, and on WLIWW at 8:00am. Other airings are scheduled for the coming week.

American Latino TV, a nationally syndicated TV show about Latin Americans making an impact in the United States will be featuring St. Francis College Director of Athletics Irma Garcia as part of the program airing this Sunday, July 19 at 3:00pm on WWOR MY9.

St. Francis Water Polo Ready for New Season With New Coach Igor Samardzija
Brooklyn Heights, NY - - - With players and new recruits getting ready to begin their 2009 campaign, St. Francis College Men's Water Polo's New Head Coach Igor Samardzija was formally introduced today by St. Francis Director of Athletics Irma Garcia. Samardzija has been working hard the past several months, recruiting and putting together a schedule for the squad that includes two trips to the West Coast to face the nation's top Division I College teams.

Serbian Minister Gets All Wet With SFC Water Polo
Past and present members of the nationally ranked St. Francis College Men's Water Polo team welcomed some high profile opposition into their home Brooklyn Heights pool in June when the Serbian Minister of Environment and Spatial Planning Oliver Dulic and Deputy Minister Bojan Djuric got in the water for a scrimmage with the team.

East New York Grade Schoolers Put on Path to Private College
More than 180 student in kindergarten through third grade from East New York Prep Charter School, along with the head of the school and their teachers spent the day at St. Francis College on Friday, June 19 learning from professors and college students about what they can achieve if they stay true to the values instilled in them by their principal.
