Joan Copeland Performs, Drama Critics Debate
Joan Copeland, Broadway actress and sister of the late playwright Arthur Miller headlined the first ever American Drama Conference at St. Francis College November 7 to November 9, with a one woman performance presented in three parts representing Miller's take on their mother Augusta Barnett Miller. Copeland began with a reading from Miller's memoir Timebends: A Life, where he painted a vivid picture of Augusta. Copeland then moved to the grand piano to reprise the role of Rose Baum, based on Augusta and which Copeland played in Miller's play The American Clock. The performance concluded with an emotional reading of the ending monologue from Death of A Salesman.

Standing Room Only for Jonathan Lethem
Brooklyn author Jonathan Lethem began his lecture to a standing room only crowd, Thursday, November 6 at the St. Francis College Maroney Forum for Arts, Culture & Education with a reading of two Walt Whitman poems, Mannahatta and Ah Poverties, Wincings, and Sulky Retreats.

Inauguration Celebrates President Brendan J. Dugan '68
Hundreds of students, faculty, staff as well as elected officials and religious leaders attended the culmination of a week-long celebration, Thursday, October 2 marking the inauguration of Brendan J. Dugan as the 18th President of St. Francis College.

SFC Athletic Director Irma Garcia Honored at White House by National Latina Organization Mana
St. Francis College Athletic Director Irma Garcia was honored October 1 at The White House, in Washington, D.C. as a 2008 Las Primeras Award Recipient by MANA, A National Latina Organization, for becoming the first Hispanic woman to run an NCAA Division I Athletic Program. Another reception will be held the next day at the Organization of American States, Hall of the Americas.

Brooklyn Existentialism: Antidote to Bad Ideas
In their new book, Brooklyn Existentialism, Voices from the Stoop explaining how Philosophical Realism can bring about the Restoration of Character, Intelligence and Taste, two St. Francis College Professors, Arthur DiClementi (Mathematics) and Nino Langiulli (Philosophy – Retired) place the blame squarely on some of the most famous thinkers in history.

Annual Celebration of the u.s. Constitution
It was a primer for some and a refresher course for others, Thursday, September 18, as six students in the St. Francis College St. Thomas More Pre-Law Society spoke about the meaning and implications of all 27 amendments to the U.S. Constitution to honor the 221st anniversary of the signing of the document.

St. Francis Opens Doors to Prep for Prep Students
Under the tutelage of Sociology and Criminal Justice Professor Emily Horowitz, four New York City students from the Prep for Prep Program and two additional student volunteers from Bronx public high schools spent the summer analyzing research for a study on public school utilization and overcrowding that Dr. Horowitz will be publishing later in the fall.

National Blog for St. Francis (Ny) Water Polo Goalie Louis Hamwey
Louis Hamwey begins his water polo blog on NCAA.com with salutations in four languages. He's not showing off though, Hamwey is just trying to say hello to his teammates on the nationally ranked Men's Water Polo squad who hail from places between the west coast of the United States and Eastern Europe.

St. Francis Ranks on Top Colleges Lists
St. Francis College has been recognized as one of the top Baccalaureate Colleges in the North for 2009 by U.S.News & World Report in its annual survey of the nation's colleges. The magazine also listed St. Francis as the fifth most diverse Baccalaureate College in the North. These rankings come a few days after Forbes.com included St. Francis in its new America's Best Colleges list, placing SFC in the Top 5 in New York City.
