A group of St. Francis College Education students completed one of their department's hallmark projects when they presented original children's books they wrote and illustrated at the 10th Annual Author's Chair Celebration on December 18th.

St. Francis College held its Winter 2020 Commencement on January 21st, with approximately 75 of the winter's 150 graduates taking part.

For years, St. Francis College's Education Department has been training new generations of educators, offering undergraduate degrees in childhood and adolescent education and physical education that prepare students for graduate school, professional certification and fulfilling jobs in primary and secondary school settings. Since spring 2019, the College has graduated 47 education majors.

Shortly after Argentine Jorge Mario Bergoglio was elected to become the next Pope, a producer from WNBC called St. Francis History Professor and Franciscan Brother Geoffrey Clement to ask him to talk about the historic event.

For the last four years, winter break has meant taking another college course for a select group of St. Francis College students; but you won't hear them complaining. The classroom this winter was the underwater ecosystem, beaches and National Parks of the Virgin Islands.

St.Francis College announced finalists for its 2019 SFC Literary Prize, a $50,000 biennial award for an author's third to fifth work of published fiction. They are: Jennifer Clement (Gun Love), Tsitsi Dangarembga (This Mournable Body); Brandon Hobson (Where the Dead Sit Talking); Samantha Hunt (The Dark Dark); David Joy (The Line That Held Us); Danzy Senna (New People). The winner will be revealed on September 21st.

Five Franciscan Brothers, all graduates of St. Francis College, celebrated their Jubilees Sunday, October 3 at The Immaculate Conception Center in Douglaston. Superior General of the Franciscan Brothers of Brooklyn Brother William Boslet, O.S.F. '70, another graduate, attended the Mass, which was celebrated by Most Reverend John C. Dunne, DD, Auxiliary Bishop of Rockville Centre.

The St. Francis College Board of Trustees has named Timothy J. Houlihan Interim President of St. Francis College. Dr. Houlihan currently serves as Provost of St. Francis. He replaces Brendan J. Dugan '68 who passed away on December 18, 2016.
