St. Francis College Hosts Brazilian Students for Summer Session in Exchange Program With SFC

Six Brazilian University students are calling St. Francis College home this week, as they participate in an exchange with SFC that brings them from the classrooms at 180 Remsen Street to the halls of the United Nations. A group of SFC students will head to Brazil later this summer for a two-week course focused on economics, politics and business.

In the Spotlight: Mahogany Browne, Poetry Coordinator of SFC's Master in Fine Arts Program

Mahogany Browne is gearing up to help lead her first Master in Fine Arts (MFA) residency session – beginning July 5th -- since joining St. Francis College as that program's poetry coordinator this Spring. She recently discussed her background as a poet and what she hopes to accomplish at St. Francis College.

St. Francis College Announces Finalists for the Biennial $50,000 SFC Literary Prize

St.Francis College announced finalists for its 2019 SFC Literary Prize, a $50,000 biennial award for an author's third to fifth work of published fiction. They are: Jennifer Clement (Gun Love), Tsitsi Dangarembga (This Mournable Body); Brandon Hobson (Where the Dead Sit Talking); Samantha Hunt (The Dark Dark); David Joy (The Line That Held Us); Danzy Senna (New People). The winner will be revealed on September 21st.

Highlighting the unique ability of New York area Congress members to collaborate with each other across party lines, United States Representative and St. Francis College alumni Peter T. King '65 (R-NY 2nd District) spoke about growing up in New York City and his career in elected politics to a nearly 200-person audience at St. Francis College on November 18th.

Rare Firsthand Account of Blues Legend Robert Johnson, Part of SFC Student Discussion

In an April 20, 2021, online discussion with the St. Francis College popular music class taught by Brian Gregory, Ed.D., assistant professor of communication arts, Augusta Palmer, Ph.D., associate professor of communication arts, moderated a discussion with writer Preston Lauterbach and 95-year-old Annye C. Anderson in which she reflected on her youth with blues legend Robert Johnson prior to his death in 1938 at the age of 27 and her lifelong connection with his musical legacy.
