North Africa Shows the Medium Is Still the Message: Mcluhan at 100

"Without Twitter, without Facebook, without YouTube, there's a very good chance that Mubarak might have endured," media studies expert Paul Levinson told a packed audience referring to former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak in St. Francis College's Maroney Forum for Arts, Culture & Education on February 23 as part of his lecture, Marshall McLuhan at 100. "It's tough to overthrow someone but it becomes easier when that attempt to change the government is tied into a global village that's watching and communicating back and forth."

Education Alumni Reunite

More than 75 graduates from the Education Department came to St. Francis College, May 30, as part of an effort to help build a stronger network of alumni which will benefit past, present and future students. The graduates and professors came together with the goals of developing school partnerships, creating a graduate honor society chapter, and building a job bank.

The New York State budget is passed but the debate over what's in the budget and how it will affect people across the state and the future economy remains a pressing issue. A lively discussion on those positions took place March 29 at St. Francis College between E.J. McMahon of the Manhattan Institute's Empire Center and former Westchester Assemblyman Richard Brodsky. Fred Siegel, visiting professor at St. Francis moderated the panel.

St. Francis Hosts Undergraduate Math Conference

More than 120 mathematicians from across the Northeast descended on St. Francis College April 24 for the 5th Annual Spuyten Duyvil Undergraduate Mathematics Conference. The conference, hosted by the St. Francis Department of Mathematics had a strong College presence with 10 talks and two posters presented by students and professors from St. Francis. In all there were more than 40 talks spread out over 12 topical sessions.
