St. Francis Athletic Director Irma Garcia Honored by El Diario for 15th Annual Mujeres Destacadas Women's Luncheon

St. Francis College Athletic Director Irma Garcia, the first Latina to head an NCAA Division I Athletics Department, was recognized as one of the recipients of the 2010 "Mujeres Destacadas Award" by El Diario La Prensa, the premier publication serving New York-area Latinos. The annual Mujeres Destacadas Awards, now in their 15th year, recognizes women from business, industry, government, nonprofit, sports and entertainment who distinguished themselves in their field and have made a difference in their community.

St. Francis College Launches Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society Scholarship for High-Achieving Transfer Students

Members of the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society will receive an annual $500 Scholarship when they transfer as a full-time student to St. Francis College. Local PTK chapters at community colleges invite students to become members when they meet certain academic criteria, which generally includes achieving a3.5 grade point average.

St. Francis Community Comes Together to Celebrate Diversity for 13th Annual Community Day

St. Francis College proudly held its 13th annual Community Day to celebrate the many cultures and ethnicities that make up the College on Sunday, April 18. Students, faculty, staff and administrators came together for a three part event that begins with an all-inclusive, spiritual mass. The day continues with dancing, singing and spoken word performances that reflect the diversity of backgrounds of the population. Last is a multicultural buffet with a variety of homemade dishes from around the world.

John Thurston Promoted to Head Coach of St. Francis Women's Basketball

St. Francis College introduced John Thurston as the new head women's basketball coach after serving the past two seasons as associate head coach. Thurston replaces Brenda Milano who resigned after completing her ninth season leading the Terriers.

Glenn Braica Becomes 17th St. Francis College Men's Head Basketball Coach

Terriers' Director of Athletics Irma Garcia announced today that Brooklyn- born Glenn Braica (pronounced Brike-uh), has been named the 17th head coach in the history of the St. Francis College men's basketball program. Braica replaces Brian Nash, who resigned for personal reasons on April 7, 2010.

St. Francis Grad Marion D. White '78 Honored at State Reception

St. Francis College alumnae and Executive Director of the Child Abuse Prevention Program (CAPP) Marion D. White '78 was honored with the Alumni Hall of Distinction Award for her contributions to New York State's economy by the Commission on Independent Colleges and Universities (CICU) on Monday, March 1 at the New York State Capital in Albany.
