Aleksandar Hemon Wins $50,000 St. Francis College Literary Prize
From nearly 40 submissions down to one, the jury for the first ever St. Francis College Literary Prize has selected Aleksandar Hemon for his book, Love and Obstacles (Riverhead Books) as the winner of the $50,000 award, one of the richest Literary Prizes in the United States. Hemon, raised in Sarajevo and now residing in Chicago wrote his first work in English in 1995. He was awarded the prize at the Gala Opening Night Party of the Brooklyn Book Festival on September 12. Hemon was selected over the other short list authors: Chris Abani, Song For Night (Akashic Books); Jim Krusoe, Girl Factory (Tin House Books) and Arthur Phillips, The Song Is You (Random House).

St. Francis College Raises $400,000 in Honoring Red Apple Group's John A. Catsimatidis at 48th Annual Charter Award Dinner
More than 250 people gathered at the Plaza in Manhattan for St. Francis College's 48th Annual Charter Award Dinner, which honored John A. Catsimatidis, the Chairman & CEO of Red Apple Group. The event, which took place on April 28th, raised over $400,000 to support scholarships for St. Francis students.

St. Francis Hosts Welcome Breakfast for Jamaican Minister
A nation of people who give back to their country is how Senator Dr. The Hon. Ronald Robinson, the Jamaican Minister of State from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, described his fellow Jamaicans, particularly those who live abroad at a breakfast hosted Monday, April 20 at St. Francis College. Minister Robinson described how 3 million Jamaican nationals, a number equal to the population that live on the island, have contributed billions of dollars in recent years to the Jamaican economy.

Four of Five Scholarships Go to St. Francis Students at Trinidad and Tobago Alliance Annual Awards
It was a great day last Sunday for four St. Francis College students from Trinidad and Tobago. Careen Fletcher '08, Dawn Kim Alves '07, Shelly Mohammed '08, Adanna Tshai Jones '07 were four of the five college students recognized for their academic success by the Trinidad and Tobago Alliance at their 30th Annual Scholarship Awards Luncheon.
